How to Create an llms-full.txt File

Your llms.txt is the table of contents. Your llms-full.txt is the full briefing — every detail AI needs to answer questions about your business without making things up.

What It Is

The Document That Answers Every Question AI Gets About You

When someone asks ChatGPT "How much does [your service] cost?" or "How does [your product] compare to [competitor]?" — AI needs to find the answer somewhere. If it can't find it, it guesses. Your llms-full.txt file is where you put all the answers so AI never has to guess.

llms.txt vs. llms-full.txt — The Difference

  • llms.txt = Table of contents. Lists your pages with links. Helps AI navigate your site.
  • llms-full.txt = The full briefing. Contains all the details written out — pricing, features, how it works, comparisons, FAQs. AI reads this one document and has everything it needs.
  • Think of it this way: llms.txt tells AI where to look. llms-full.txt gives AI all the answers in one place so it doesn't have to look anywhere else.

The Sections Your llms-full.txt Should Have

Think about every question a potential customer might ask AI about your business. Your llms-full.txt should answer all of them. Here are the sections to include:

How to Write Your llms-full.txt File

Start With Your Company Overview

Write 2-3 paragraphs about your business. Who are you? What do you do? Who do you serve? How long have you been doing it? What makes you different from competitors? Write it like you're explaining your business to someone who's never heard of you.

Don't just write "Drain Cleaning" — write "Drain Cleaning: We clear clogged sinks, showers, and main sewer lines using camera inspection to find the exact blockage. Starts at $149." Give AI enough detail to explain it to someone.

Every price, every tier, every add-on. If you have packages, list what's in each one. Include real examples like "A typical kitchen faucet replacement runs $250-$400 including parts." AI gets asked about pricing constantly — give it the real numbers.

Think about the questions customers ask you most. Write them as Q&A pairs. "How long does it take?" "Do you offer financing?" "What areas do you serve?" These are the exact questions people ask AI — give it the answers.

  • DO be thorough — this file can be as long as you need. AI handles long documents fine.
  • DO include real numbers — prices, response times, ratings, years in business
  • DO write in plain language — no jargon, no marketing fluff
  • DO include negative constraints — what you DON'T do is just as important
  • DO update it whenever pricing, services, or policies change
  • DO use section dividers (---) to separate topics clearly
  • DON'T copy your website word-for-word — write it fresh for AI
  • DON'T use persuasive marketing language — just state facts
  • DON'T leave out pricing — it's the #1 thing people ask AI about
  • DON'T forget to upload it to your website root (yoursite.com/llms-full.txt)
